I recently had some long conversations with a friend who was looking at the Rolex Submariner 16610 or the Wavemaster 16600. imagine my surprise when I saw the prices of these models! Now it’s time to look back at a few of the popular watches that left us over a decade ago.
Sure, we talk a lot about Rolex, but hardly a day goes by that someone doesn’t leave a comment asking about one of their models. New or old, they’re always on people’s minds. Recently, it seems that attention has turned to modern models that were discontinued about a decade ago. The Rolex Submariner 16610 and the Wavemaster 16600 are two dive where to buy replica watches from the same period. Their differences are subtle, but one thing makes them incredibly similar: their prices! These watches are no longer the whipping boy! Sure, they are still the most affordable stainless steel dive watches out there, but the days when they were truly a “bargain” are over. Let’s briefly discuss each one and some ideas.
For those of us in our 30’s to 50’s, I bet the Rolex Submariner 16610 is the watch that comes to mind when the word “Rolex” is uttered. This Submariner Date model has been in production for a surprisingly long time. It was introduced in 1988 and finally discontinued in 2010. During its nearly 25 years of production, it has undergone several minor updates, but the face has remained the same. Early models used tritium dials, 93150 bracelets with stamped links at the end and drilled lugs. 1999 saw the addition of the Luminova to the lineup. Then, a year later, the Superluminova appeared, along with the solid end links of the 93250 bracelet. A few years into the millennium, the lugs lost their holes.
As mentioned earlier, the dial nevertheless maintained a similar design throughout the period. The Rolex Submariner 16610 brings a 40mm case, water resistance to 300 meters, and a chronometer-certified 3135 automatic with a quick-set date. Bob’s fake rolex for sales has an informative article on the history of the 16610, and they make an interesting point about desirability. We will never know how many 16610s were sold, but it was much more popular than the undated 14060. It seems that most people, other than watch aficionados, like the complicated date feature!
